Because getting arrested for multiple DUIs, seeking treatment for drug addiction, breaking probation, and returning to rehab are all acts of maturity…

What happened to advocating your individuality? Most of Tinseltown is very liberal anyway, which makes for socially intriguing as well as stretching-the-truth and pushing-the-envelope films created by filmmakers who aren’t ashamed nor afraid of sharing their views, materializing their opinions on camera while entertaining. It’s really beautiful, it’s an artist’s dream, if you ask me. I find the best films (granted, they spent their millions wisely and had creative visionaries implement their mindchild) to be the ones that make a statement, those who really went all out, embraced a message, you know?

Check out (if you haven’t already) these films that present a socially relevant issue and just run with it, it’s inspiring, it’s what I want to do with my films someday:

The Kids Are All Right (2010): tackles the social issue of a lesbian marriage; the couple’s children seek out their birthfather (Mark Ruffalo!! <3)

Babel (2006): based on “an idea” and also the biblical story; the cultural and linguistic misunderstandings of four stories overlap and intertwine. Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett headline as the stars; every actor’s performance is fantastic, the cinematography is incredible

Blood Diamond (2006): explores a painfully heartbreaking issue that continues to plague Africans daily; jewelry donning unbreakable rocks have since appeared repulsive to my eyes [star Leonardo DiCaprio also produced The 11th Hour, a documentary film about environmental emergencies—look it up]

Taken (2008): obviously an eye-opener to those who both ignore and spit on the very real issue of international sex trafficking

Game Change (2012): made for TV movie about the 2008 vice presidential campaign of Sarah Palin (played by Julianne Moore)
